Description
[Spanish Campaign of 1810] Pierre LAGARDE (Paimpol 1768–1848). General Intendant of the Police of Portugal, a close friend of Marshal Masséna, the Prince of Essling, and General Foy. His letters provide a genuine account of military events in Spain and during the Third Portuguese Campaign. Three autograph letters, two of which are signed, addressed to General Foy on 4 and 30 June and 21 August 1810; the first two were sent from Madrid and the third from Ciudad Rodrigo. The letters give an insight into the friendship between the two men, as well as that which bound him to the Prince. Lagarde’s views are clear-cut and of the greatest interest. 4 folio pages / 3 folio pages / 3 folio pages with a wax seal and a small tear at the side of the last leaf.
