Description
ALBUM OF WATERCOLOURS on paper, comprising a collection of seventy-two works, including seventeen watercolours probably by Marie-Augusta d’Harcourt (1813–1892), Countess of Castries, some signed ‘Marie’ and several of which are dated between 1837 and 1839. These works include, in particular, views of Venice, seascapes, Swiss landscapes—including Thun and Saint-Gervais—as well as a very fine depiction of a monkey. The album also includes fifty-five works by various other artists, amongst which are: landscapes, notably of mountains and seascapes; views of towns and villages, including Venice; genre scenes; and scenes of courtly life. Enclosed is an old photograph depicting the portrait of Marie-Augusta d’Harcourt.
