Michel Thompson, with a foreword by Edgar Morin. Paris, Altamira, 2006. Our painting is reproduced on page 90. Condition report: Framed, restored Trained at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, where he became friends with Paul Rebeyrolle and Bernard Buffet, Michel Thompson was (alongside Buffet, Rebeyrolle, Lorjou, Yvonne Mottet, André Minaux and Simone Dat) a founding member in 1948 of the group l’Homme Témoin, which advocated a return to the concrete realities of existence. Marie-Thérèse Maugis wrote of him in 1957: “He manages to replace traditional perspective and modelling—without resorting to any kind of colour symbolism—with an art form which, through the interplay of coloured surfaces and lines alone, suggests both space and atmosphere.” His works can be found at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, as well as at the fine arts museums in Blois, Clermont-Ferrand and Villeneuve-sur-Lot.
