History
Acclaimed by the public and critics alike from its creation in 1749, and regarded as Jean-Baptiste Pigalle’s masterpiece, ‘The Child with the Cage’ served as a model for sculptors of the second half of the 18th century as well as for painters, who incorporated marble into their portraits and still lifes. The original model is now held at the Louvre Museum under the reference (RF 654).
