Arthur GOUVERNEUR (1852–?) JACKAL, 1947 & DOG A pair of watercolours and Indian ink drawings with gouache highlights on paper, signed in Indian ink; one depicting a jackal’s head, signed, dated and titled at the bottom left; the other depicting a terrier with a blue collar, signed in the centre 30 x 24 cm Bibliography: A French painter and draughtsman active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Arthur Gouverneur was particularly renowned for his scenes of hunting with hounds, animal, equestrian and military subjects, as well as caricatures. Several of his works devoted to the world of hunting and the hunt are now held at the Musée de la Vénerie in Senlis, notably portraits and caricatures of figures associated with hunting parties.
