Description
Evelyn Baring, Lord CROMER (1841–1917), British diplomat and colonial administrator. Letter from the author, Cairo, 9 November 1893, to Henry Dunning Macleod at the Oxford & Cambridge Club in London; 5 pages, in-8 format, dry stamp bearing the British coat of arms, envelope (stamp cut out); in English. He thanks Henry Dunning Macleod (1821–1902) for sending him his new edition of *The Theory of Credit*. He is no authority on economic matters, but he took an interest in them in the past. He realises that Macleod has corrected certain errors which, backed by the authority of John Stuart Mill and others of his school, had become accepted by the public: ‘it appeared to me that you had successfully confuted certain errors, which, backed by the authority of Mill and others of his school, had taken hold of the public mind’. Sir Louis Mallet was of the same opinion.
