James MILL (1773–1836). Letter from the author, East India House, 10 October [1832], addressed to ‘My dear Sir’; three and a half pages, in-8; in English. He apologises for the delay in replying; having been in too much of a hurry to set off for work when he received your letter, it was the first thing he intended to do the following morning, but an officer came to fetch him for urgent business and he was so busy that he completely forgot about your letter: ‘the next morning, I had barely arrived when an officer came from the Board of Control on urgent business, and I was so engrossed by him and others for most of the day that I utterly forgot my letter to you’; although he did meet Bickersteth, who told him what had transpired between them on the same subject.
