Description
Victor de Riquetti, Marquis de MIRABEAU (1715–1789). L.S., Paris, 14 March 1775, to Mr Faucher at Rochechouart (Haute-Vienne); one and a half pages, quarto size, addressed with a red wax seal bearing a broken coat of arms. He has not received the parcel that was sent to Mr de Saint-Paul, ‘who, not having free postage, flatly refuses to accept parcels of any considerable size’, and he provides a reliable address for sending bulky parcels: ‘that of Mr de St Didier, chief clerk of the Navy at court’. Regarding his estate at La Morinière, he does not wish to demolish the house: ‘I much prefer to build than to destroy. Might there not be a way to preserve it, or at least part of it, at a lower cost than what you have told me?’, and he leaves it to him to decide, as he is on the spot.
