Description
Victor de Riquetti, Marquis de MIRABEAU (1715–1789). L.A., Paris, 18 August 1784, to a count; one and a half pages, quarto (a few small tears). He humorously congratulates the Count on his decoration and encourages him to persevere in his military honours until he becomes a Marshal of France. He then speaks of one of his many legal cases: ‘I was due to receive the final judgement from this parliament; my foolish lawyer went to the rapporteur to sing his praises and ask him to recuse himself; he sent her and her bag to the devil, and consequently me too, so I am thus put off until next year. Patience and courage do not prevent harm and ruin, and yet one must nevertheless maintain them’...
