Jacques NECKER (1732–1804), financier, Comptroller-General and Minister of Finance. 3 letters, 1788–1789, to various recipients; 3½ pages, in-4 or in-8. 6 January 1788, a thank-you note for a New Year’s greeting: ‘You have been kind enough to adorn it with all the graces of the most refined wit. I am not worthy of such an honour, but I have no qualms about enjoying your generosity’… – 20 April 1788: he had ‘the work you wished to receive from me delivered to Mr Atger; I have chosen a copy of the first edition from Lausanne, printed on the finest paper’… – 29 November 1789, a thank-you note for ‘verses full of wit and charm’… Enclosed is the end of a handwritten letter to Mr Heurtault de Baignoux concerning the lottery, and an engraved portrait.
