Jean-Baptiste SAY (1767–1832). 4 letters, Paris, 1817–1826, to the bookseller Jean-François Déterville; 5 pages, in-8 and in-4 formats, 3 addresses. To the publisher of his *Treatise on Political Economy*. 18 January 1817: *Le Censeur* is to be republished; and Comte & Dunoyer are prepared to write a favourable review of the 3rd edition; he therefore asks Déterville to send them some copies. – 23 June 1819, concerning the fourth edition: Say protests against the tyranny of his publisher, who ‘rely a little too much on the selflessness of authors’; he agrees to 3,200 copies and will take charge of the five copies for the Library Directorate, but refuses to alter the terms of payment. – 9 April 1825: he requests a further three copies and two dozen for next week. – 8 April 1826, regarding his 5th edition: he has been made offers “which present me with slightly greater advantages, and which, by targeting sales in the Stock Exchange district and among the upper echelons of commerce, will, I believe, ensure a swifter sale. I have accepted them and feel obliged, out of courtesy, to inform you.” This edition will only be published once the remaining copies of the fourth edition have been sold…
