Jean-Baptiste SAY (1767–1832). Autograph letter, Paris, 2 June 1832, to Messrs Treuttel & Wurtz, booksellers in Paris; 1 page, quarto, addressed. He recommends Mr Blumm to them, the author of a work on the Statistics of Sweden, presented by Count Slowenhielm, the Swedish minister, ‘as highly commendable and of the utmost scrupulous accuracy’. I would regard it as a genuine triumph for our literature if you were to publish a translation of it, which would be welcomed not only in France, but in England and even in Germany and in all countries where statistics are studied – and there are many such countries at present. I therefore believe I am serving the interests of learned Europe by enabling you to undertake this endeavour, which is, moreover, very little of a risk’…
