Description
Josiah TUCKER (1711–1799), English political economist. L.A.S. (signed at the top in the third person) ‘The Dean of Glocr’, Gloucester, 19 August 1775, to Mr Cadel, ‘Bookseller’, in London; 1 page, quarto, address on the reverse; in English (enclosed engraved portrait). He wishes to know whether many leaflets have been distributed and whether another print run can be ready by November. He reminds Cadel that he has full authority to reprint in London and hopes that the second part will be ready in six weeks. He would be grateful if Cadel could put him in touch with an officer or a friend of the Government, to provide him with information on the siege of Louisbourg: ‘if Mr Cadel c[oul]d direct him to some officer, or intelligent Friend of Government, to inform him on some particulars relating to the siege of Louisbourg, in the former War by the New-Englanders – their motives for that expedition, & the tricks they had been playing in their own Government’…
