Description
Anne-Robert-Jacques TURGOT (1727–1781). 2 letters, Versailles, 1 and 8 July 1775; 1 page in-4 and 1 page in-fol. (enclosed engraved portrait). To M. de Grosbois. He has received ‘the representations from the Parliament of Besançon, seeking the re-establishment of the Chamber of Accounts at Dole. I shall read them carefully and consult with the Keeper of the Seals—whose remit this matter primarily concerns—regarding the course of action that may be most beneficial to the service’. He is to hand over to his correspondent ‘the King’s Warrant, drawn up by the Duke of Aiguillon, concerning the memorandum in which he requested retirement pensions and gratuities for several of the Light Cavalry of His Majesty’s Ordinary Guard’. It will be necessary to determine “what sum the Treasury will have to pay each year for this matter and from what date payment is to commence”…
