La KORRIGANE. Album of 62 photographs, [1934–1936]; black-and-white photographs measuring approximately 21.5 x 15 cm (16) and 11 x 7 cm (46); in an oblong hardback in-4 ‘Snapshots’ album. The Korrigane expedition (1934–1936) was a major French ethnographic and oceanographic expedition to the South Pacific, funded and organised by a group of enthusiasts: Jean Ratisbonne, Étienne and Monique de Ganay, Charles and Régine van den Broek d’Obrenan. The collections were deposited at the Musée de l’Homme and the Muséum d’histoire naturelle; this significant collection was particularly showcased at the Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac. Some of the photographs bear the stamp of the photographer Isken from Surabaya (Java) on the reverse: scenes of local life in Indonesia and Oceania, including festivals, offerings, scenes from daily life, agriculture, portraits, markets, monuments, pagodas, vegetation and rice fields, etc. Included is a glass-fronted photo frame (22 x 28 cm) containing two photographs: one of Jean Ratisbonne’s cabin, the other of the ship La Korrigane.
