Description
Jacques-Élie LAMBLARDIE (1747–1797), engineer, first director of the École Polytechnique. Manuscript with handwritten corrections, ‘Memoir on the École Polytechnique from its establishment in Vendémiaire, Year III, to the month of Vendémiaire, Year IV’ [September–October 1795]; 20-page folio notebook. A heavily amended draft of the report on the École Polytechnique’s first year of operation, containing numerous details on the layout of the premises, the conduct of lectures, student numbers, the students’ practical difficulties, etc. This report, written by a secretary, bears numerous corrections and additions by Lamblardie, as well as by other hands. It is cited by G. Bouchard, *Prieur de la Côte-d’Or* (1946, p. 275) and J. Langins, *La République avait besoin de savants. Les débuts de l’École polytechnique…* (1987, n. 47).
