Description
Jean-Baptiste RONDELET (1743–1829), architect. 2 letters, Paris 1818–1819, to Claude-Étienne Delvincourt, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Paris; 2 pages in-4 each, with addresses (purchased from the Paul Fontaine collection on the first). Concerning the demolition of a house adjoining the Law School. – 12 September 1818. He carried out a further inspection of the house on Rue Saint-Étienne and acknowledges that it is falling into disrepair at an ever-increasing rate. ‘The effects are evident every day in the loosening of the floor tiles and the constant creaking that the residents say they hear every night.’ Given the cost that renovation would entail, he is in favour of demolition. – 11 November 1819, regarding the party wall of the demolished house. He proposed demolishing it and joining the courtyard area to the garden, creating an opening with a door, ‘so that, by means of these arrangements, there will be no communication between the occupants of the small house immediately adjoining the school and the courtyard or garden of the house occupied by Mr Boulage’. He also proposes that a passage be created between the said house and the school, ‘a door opening onto the left-hand gallery of the school to replace the one opening onto the other gallery, since by means of this door one would no longer be obliged to cross the courtyard’... Attached are 5 letters or notes, 1794–1795, as a member of the Public Works Commission (2 co-signed by Le Camus): requisition of a building; construction of a wooden floor at the fish market; the Paris land registry; entrance examination for the École Polytechnique.
