Pablo CASALS (1876–1973). 5 letters, 1912–1939, to Jacques Thibaud; 1 page in-12 with address on the back (postcard), 2 pages in-8, and 4½ pages in-4 on Orquestra Pau Casals Barcelona letterhead, 2 envelopes. A fine collection of letters from the cellist to his friend, the violinist. Vendrell, 12 July 1912: ‘Hello, old friend’; he is on holiday and wishes Thibaud the same rest. ‘Vert [concert organiser] wrote to me to say that they had decided that we should play solos at the two concerts in London. I refused. Do the same, as it would be a blunder if we accepted. I’m writing to Bauer [the pianist Harod Bauer] to the same effect”… Barcelona, 8 June 1934: “It is an honour for the Patronage of my concerts to have your name on the list of our honorary members – it is very short but rather chic, as you will see: Eugène Ysaye, President / Jacquot [Thibaud] / Fred [Cortot] / Tovey”. 4 October 1935. He is sorry he cannot embrace his ‘dear Jacquot’, whose ship has been delayed, but he cannot stay in Barcelona and must travel to Tarragona. “I hope you are in good health and that you return from this long tour feeling very satisfied, and I am sure you are playing better than ever”… Barcelona, 27 June 1936.
