Franz SCHUBERT (1797–1828). Faith, Hope and Love. For the consecration of the new bell at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in the Alservorstadt on 2 September 1828, with lyrics by Fried. Reil, and as a choral work with accompaniment for piano or wind ensemble... [D. 954]. (Vienna, available from the parish of the Friars Minor and Mr Aloys Hauser ... and in the city from Tranquillo Mollo, [1828]); oblong folio of 5 pp. and 1 folio page (foxing). First and very rare edition of this choral work with instrumental accompaniment. Engraved title and music, without page numbers, bearing the dry stamp ‘Burg. Wiener Alser u. Währinger Grundgerichts-Sig[illum]’. This choral piece for male voices, joined by female voices for the final bars, is accompanied by a wind ensemble, the score for which, *Harmonie-Begleitung zum Chor*, is attached as a separate sheet to the score for the choir and pianoforte. Set to words by Friedrich Reil, this choral work was composed for the consecration ceremony of the new bell at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Alservorstatdt on 2 September 1828. This extremely rare private edition, sold for charitable purposes, bears the stamp exempting it from tax. It is one of Schubert’s last works (he died on 19 November 1828), the last performance of one of his works that he was able to attend, and the final edition of a work by Schubert published during his lifetime.
