Following the arrest and deportation of the poet and Resistance fighter Jean Cayrol. [Aragon, who had taken refuge with Elsa Triolet in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon at Pierre Seghers’s home, was doing his utmost to publish Cayrol’s poems, through his friend Monique Chambaud in Bordeaux.]
