Emil CIORAN (1911–1995). P.A.S., Paris, 15 July 1988, on the book *Elisabeth von Oesterreich, Einsamkeit, Marcht and Freiheit* (Wien Kultur, 1986). In-8, paperback. A lengthy note from Cioran on the flyleaf of this exhibition catalogue dedicated to Sissi, addressed to the actress Bérangère Bonvoisin, who, in 1988, was directing *Le Salon transfiguré* by her partner Philippe Clévenot, a piece evoking Empress Sissi: ‘Dear Bérangère Bonvoisin, Unfortunately, I am not up to date with what is happening in Paris; I even manage to miss the shows that ought to interest me. Is it tiredness, detachment, or rather foolish wisdom? This is so true that even my fondness for Sisi is no longer what it used to be. I cannot, therefore, to my great regret, be of any help to you.
