François-Jean DAILLANT DE LA TOUCHE (Quintin 1744–1827), a Breton man of letters and contributor to Fréron’s *Année littéraire*. 3 autograph letters, Angers and Paris 1815 and undated, to the Count of La Poterie in Angers; 7 pages, quarto, with addresses (discolouration and small tears in the last letter). Long, erudite letters, particularly concerning his royal origins. Angers, Friday 6 Frimaire. Despite his poverty, he is ‘no less a very great lord, and there is no greater lord in Europe than I, not even amongst sovereigns, for I am, like them, of royal blood, and none of them could produce the same proofs of lineage as I can. I am descended from those ancient kings who came from Germania to England, whose reign is referred to in English history as the Heptarchy. My forefathers were the leaders of those ancient Celts or Germans who were the first settlers of Great Britain, and they reigned there as kings. I prove this clearly and without omission, just as I prove that I was born in Quintin-Lorges, in the diocese of St Brieuc.
