Autograph letter, ‘Neci’ [Annecy], 9 May [1609], to ‘His Highness Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy; 1 folio page, address with seal bearing the coat of arms beneath the paper. In favour of a Protestant who had fled Geneva to convert. [On 23 December 1604, the Bishop of Geneva had recommended to Charles d’Albigny this Captain Henri de La Rose, who had come to him ‘to receive absolution for his heresy’, and had had all his possessions confiscated upon leaving Geneva; he withdrew to Annecy, where the bishop provided for his needs, before securing him a post at the Château de Montmélian; one of his daughters entered the Monastery of Sainte-Claire in Annecy.] ‘Your Grace, Captain La Rose appeals to Your Grace’s kindness to obtain some assistance from you for the maintenance of his poor family.
