Description
Adam KING (1560–1620), Scottish humanist, Neo-Latin poet and scholar. Autograph letter ‘Adamus Regius’, Edinburgh, 1 April 1614, to the printer François Rapheleng in Leiden; 1 folio page in Latin. Concerning the publication of the poems of George Buchanan (1506–1582), a Scottish poet, playwright and humanist. The letter is addressed to François Rapheleng (1568–1643), son of François I Rapheleng (1539–1597, who had married a daughter of Christophe Plantin, Marguerite), who had succeeded him (and his brother Christophe, who died in 1600) at the printing house in Leiden. ‘Our Buchanan, the most illustrious of the Rapheleng printers, is compiling the elements of the entire sphere of learning in five volumes; he has completed the first three, and has barely begun the fourth’… Etc.
