Léo LARGUIER (1878–1950). Autograph letter, 12 November [1918], to an ‘old friend’; 3 pages, in-8. A moving letter written in the aftermath of the Armistice of 11 November 1918. It is with a heart full of sorrow and mistrust that he welcomes this new peace: ‘How we shall have to make up for all that time wasted through friendship, good humour and work! It is you I am thinking of today. I am alone, with empty hands, dreadfully alone and a widower. Frankly, I wonder if it wouldn’t have been better to have stayed there. Now that it’s over, I regret it. I’m terrified of living. I’ve never felt so down as I do today. No doubt they’ll send me back to Germany again, like so many others, and I’m not ready to come back. […] Fauchois is going to read my *Victoire* in *Le Français* in a few days’ time. We’ll have to think about finding me a place with you, a modest but secure haven.
