Description
Francis PONGE (1899–1988). Signed autograph manuscript, *Fables logiques*, [c. 1925]; 5 pages, in-4. A fine manuscript comprising three fables devoted to linguistic poetics. They were published separately in three different collections. I *The Birth of Venus* [1922], an exercise on the ‘use of the present tense’, was included in 1961 in the ‘Lyres’ section of the *Grand Recueil*. ‘Oh! I do not recall the wave: I am no longer there’… II *Spirits of the Imperfect or the Flying Fish* [1924] was included in 1948 in the collection *Proêmes*; six poetic addresses entrusted to characters: Apio, Vosca, Pisco, Poski, Vasco and Iopa. III *Du Logoscope* [c. 1925], on the nature of words, was the only text retained from the series entitled *Fables logiques*, published in the journal *Le Disque vert* in July–August 1953, and subsequently included in 1951 in the ‘Méthodes’ section of the *Grand Recueil*. Francis Ponge described his work on these *Fables logiques* in his *Entretiens avec Philippe Sollers*.
