Jean PSICHARI (1854–1929). Autograph poem, *L’Ancêtre*, [1888], and a letter, 14 October 1883, to Sophie Berthelot; 1 page in-8 each. L’Ancêtre. A powerful poem comprising three quatrains on the creation of the world: ‘The molten earth blazed, an enormous furnace’… 14 October 1883. A very fine letter of condolence to Mrs Sophie Berthelot following the death of her brother, the scientist Alfred Niaudet: ‘when one has a passionate devotion to one’s loved ones, the voids that are thus created squeeze the heart with great pain’… Enclosed is a photograph showing him with his wife and their three young children, dressed in their Sunday best, at the bell tower.
