Description
Charles-Ferdinand RAMUZ (1878–1947). Autograph letter, Pully, 29 May 1937, to Henri Philippon; 2 pages, in-8 format, addressed to La Muette, in a stamped envelope. He had received the journal *Le Chef d’œuvre* (in which *Le Règne de l’esprit malin* had appeared): ‘I still find, as far as I am concerned, the term a little heavy-handed and “compromising”’. He regrets not having found “on the cover the Valais ‘group’ (or stand-in?) that I had sent you, but, alas, my own image”; he was surprised, as he did not think he had posed for Cinédis: ‘They must have substituted an impressive lookalike for my modest self’, but the portrait is well done ‘and perfectly in keeping with the image of the preacher that people believe me to be. But the ‘LEFT-WINGERS’! For you are at the mercy of the left-wingers’. He would like to hear news from Paris, ‘where the Exhibition prevents me from going, like all the poor’.
