Published in the ‘Feuilleton littéraire’ section of *Le Figaro* on 7 August 1928, this review is devoted chiefly to the book by Gérard d’Houville (the pseudonym of Marie de Régnier), *La Vie amoureuse de la Belle Hélène* (Flammarion): ‘this daughter of the Swan and Leda was, by virtue of her beauty and by a decree of the gods, destined to arouse and satisfy the desires of men’… Helen of Sparta was ‘destined for love, but it must be acknowledged that she inspired it more than she felt it: she sought it less than she obeyed it.
