On the Greek Revolution. ‘What pleases me about the Hellenic Revolution is that it was the work of an idea. It was prepared by study and thought; scholars were its apostles; it is the final act of ancient idealism, taking its revenge, through the power of truth, upon ignorance and barbarism’.
Enclosed is a handwritten letter from his wife, Cornélie Renan, dated 16 May 1886, thanking Eugène Manuel for his verses in honour of Pasteur (who had just discovered the rabies vaccine).
