Description
George SAND (1804–1876). Autograph letter signed ‘G.S.’, [Nohant, September? 1841, to the publisher Charles Perrotin]; 1 page, in-8, bearing her small Gothic initial (traces of gluing on the reverse). Regarding the preparation of Volume II (Jacques) of the popular edition of her Œuvres published by Perrotin: ‘I believe it is unnecessary for me to proofread the proofs of *Jacques*. This work is one of those I have written with the greatest care. The proofs were proofread at the time by the great grammarian Gustave Planche. Since then, I have reviewed it again carefully for the second edition, and in the copy I returned to you there were very few words to change. I therefore believe you will make faster progress by not sending me the proofs. Take a look at these and have your proofreader check them thoroughly for typographical errors and any mistakes that always creep into the typesetting. I prefer to reserve all my attention for those of my works that really need it’... Newly Discovered Letters, no. 39.
