Paul VERLAINE. Autograph poem signed ‘Voilà bien le déjà quantième’…, 1 January 1893; 1 page, large 8vo, on administrative paper from the Assistance publique; mounted on a tab in a copy of *Dans les limbes* (Paris, Léon Vanier, 1894); small 8vo, Bradel binding in midnight blue percaline (E. Carayon). A clean copy of a poem from *Dans les limbes*; the manuscript, in brown ink, signed and dated 1 January 1893, was numbered IV, corrected to VIII in red pencil; the poem is indeed the 8th piece in the collection; it comprises 20 lines. ‘This is indeed the umpteenth day of the year That you see me here: the first was in ***. Ah! My love is already more than half a decade old; […] The voice fades away, but the memory remains’... This manuscript offers a variant of the tenth line: ‘Still, days upon days and sweet loves’ (in the printed edition: ‘And days and days and sweet loves’). It appears at the beginning of the first edition of *Dans les limbes* (Paris, Léon Vanier, 1894), one of 20 copies on Imperial Japan paper (no. 14, initialled by Léon Vanier), untrimmed, with a cover. In addition to the frontispiece portrait of Ladislas Loévy, dated [18]88, a portrait of Verlaine by F.-A. Cazals, printed on Whatman paper, has been bound at the front.
