Élisa BONAPARTE (1777–1820). Autograph letter, from the Baths of Lucca, 1 August 1807, to Louis de Fontanes; 1 page, in-4. She complains of having waited for him in vain at Lucca: ‘I hear that you have not left Paris, and you have not even bothered to write to me. That is a very poor response to my friendship. Anyone but me would be angry.’ She does, however, recommend to him her Grand Equerry, “who is going to His Majesty to convey to him the sentiments of the common people whom he has entrusted to me.
