Jean-Baptiste BONTEMPS (1584–1659), first surgeon and later first valet to Louis XIII. Letter from the author, Paris, 11 December 1634, to Marshal de Brézé, with the armies in Germany; 2 folio pages, address bearing a small wax seal with the coat of arms (minor losses at the upper corners without loss of text, and slight water damage). A long letter concerning various commissions carried out at Brézé’s request. He travelled to Loudun to meet M. de Silly regarding the Ripaille decree; the case is ready for trial. He discusses the affairs of the House of La Rocheboisseau following the death of Madame de Bauches, concerning which Monsieur de Fredilly, one of the heirs, ‘has summoned people on market days in Poitiers’, and ‘the guardianship of the mute of La Rocheboisseau’; then of the matter concerning the guardianship of the Count of Montsoreau’s children. He reports on the execution in Angers of Bouilly, a servant of the Count of Montsoreau, ‘for the crime of counterfeiting’.
