Plague in Picardy. ‘The King, wishing to spare no effort to ensure your safety and prevent the spread of the plague in your town, had ordered me to seek out a person experienced in the matter of quarantine’; Colbert has appointed M. de La Cointe “to establish, under the orders of the Governor or the King’s Lieutenant and of Monsieur Nacquart [Governor of Dunkirk], all the police measures and discipline he deems necessary to halt the spread of the contagion”…
