DENMARK. Johan Nicolai MADVIG (1804–1886), Danish philologist and politician. L.S., Smidrtrup near Vedbak, 16 June 1879, to Baron Arthur Pavlovitch de Mohrenheim (1824–1906), ‘envoy of His Majesty the Emperor of All Russia to Copenhagen’; 2 pages, quarto (small tears but no pages missing); in French. He thanks him most warmly for having attended ‘the celebrations marking our fourth centenary and for playing such a prominent part in them. The memory of this kindness and of the words you spoke on several occasions will not easily fade, either amongst the professors or amongst our students, who were deeply moved by them’.
