Estate of Empress Joséphine.
She acknowledges that her attorney-in-fact, Baron de Vaux [Devaux], has provided her with ‘the most accurate account of the management and administration of all my affairs […] whether in respect of the timber rights from which I derived income, or the sale of the paintings and other works of art which I had asked him to sell, and that Mr de Vaux has furthermore handed over to me the diamonds, jewellery and other items that had been bequeathed to me as my share of the estate of Empress Joséphine, my mother, the settlement and final division of which he has completed to my satisfaction’.” She therefore discharges Mr de Vaux from ‘all the administration for which he has provided me with the supporting documents’… The document is apostilled below and signed below by Baron Michel-Victor-Frédéric Devaux (1766–1840, steward of Queen Hortense’s household, and by the notary André-Claude Noël (1777–1832), along with three others, for stamp duty and registration.
