Raymond CAUCHETIER (1920–2021) *Breathless*, Jean-Luc Godard. Cinematographer Raoul Coutard hidden in a canvas post cart with his camera, director Jean-Luc Godard, and the actors, on the set of the film, Paris, Champs-Élysées, 1959. Period silver print, printed in late 1959, signed in pencil and numbered “1305” (negative number), with copyright and title stamps on the reverse. Size: 18 x 23.5 cm Regarding the scene of the descent down the Champs-Élysées, Raymond Cauchetier recounts Jean-Luc Godard’s idea: ‘He’d come up with the idea of hiding the cameraman in a Post Office delivery trolley, with a hole cut in the front, so that he could film the actors whilst shouting their lines to them as discreetly as possible.’ Raymond C. in Raymond Cauchetier, La Nouvelle Vague.
