Description
Raymond CAUCHETIER (1920–2021)
*À bout de souffle* (Breathless), Jean-Luc Godard. *Le Baiser du quai Saint-Michel*, Paris, 1959.
Later silver print, printed in 1998, signed in felt-tip pen and numbered “P004/51”, with copyright (smudged) and title stamps on the reverse.
Dimensions: 24 x 17.5 cm.
This photograph was taken at the junction of Quai Saint-Michel and Rue Xavier Privas (5th arrondissement). Before entering the Hôtel de Suède, Raymond Cauchetier asked the actors to kiss at this precise spot. It was his previous experience with photo-novels that enabled him to devise the scene. The photographs of *Le Baiser* and *L’Avant-baiser* on Quai Saint-Michel were therefore taken off-camera.
