Raymond Cauchetier recalls:
This single image encapsulates the incredible challenge Jean-Luc Godard posed to the filming methods of classical cinema. The scene was photographed in the photographer’s studio on Rue Campagne-Première. With his right hand, Godard pushes the camera dolly whilst, with his left, he holds the script from which he reads, on the spot, the lines intended for Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg. A filming style as daring as it is improvised, which has come to symbolise the creative freedom of the New Wave.
