Description
Raymond CAUCHETIER (1920–2021)
Raymond Cauchetier’s Mamiya C330 Pro, accompanied by a photograph of Kaoru Cauchetier with her black hair blowing in the wind, amidst the scents of Tuscany, during those happy days, whilst filming a documentary on Romanesque sculptures.
Camera – Mamiya C330 Professional S, a medium-format twin-lens camera that belonged to Raymond Cauchetier.
Photograph – Digital print produced in 2013 for the ‘Flashback on Raymond Cauchetier’ exhibition at the Salon de la Photo, Paris-Expo Porte de Versailles, Paris, 7–11 November 2013.
Size: 80 x 60 cm.
This lot concludes the sale ‘Hymn to Love. The Kaoru and Raymond Cauchetier Collection. The New Wave Photographer’, by bringing together an object and an image: the camera that accompanied Raymond Cauchetier in his work, and the perspective through which Kaoru Cauchetier viewed him.
The Rolleiflex and the Linhof Super Technika III used by Raymond Cauchetier on the set of *À bout de souffle* have been added to the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France as part of the donation of his collection. This Mamiya C330 Pro, meanwhile, is one of the cameras with which Cauchetier took his photographs for photo-novels, notably those for *Mort en fraude* (1956). It may well be the very same camera that, a few years later, found itself at the heart of the buzz on the film sets of the New Wave.
