Description
A rare reliquary bust in cast silver and ivory depicting Saint Bennon, Bishop of Meissen.
The bishop is depicted in bust form, clad in a richly jewelled cloak, with a cross around his neck. He wears a mitre.
His face and hands are carved from ivory. He is mounted on an octagonal base designed in the Gothic style, featuring a decoration of chapels with pointed arches and a pinnacle adorned with relief scenes depicting episodes from the life of Christ.
Hallmarks on the back and base: Germany, 13 and N.

Gross weight 618 g.
Minor chips, oxidation, dents, scratches; the mitre has been previously re-glued; a small chip on the little finger of the left hand; the two ribbon tails at the back of the mitre are missing.
The right hand, previously reconstructed in resin painted to resemble ivory, is missing. The crozier is detached from the right hand.
