Description
LUCAIN. *Pharsalia*, most diligently edited by G. Versellanus. [Paris], Josse Bade and Jehan Petit, 1514. Folio, fawn half-basane, spine decorated with embossed motifs, smooth edges (19th-century binding). A new edition published by Josse Bade and revised by Gérard de Verceil, additionally containing the commentary by Filippo Beroaldo and notes by Antoine Sabellico, Jacobo Bononiensi and Battista Pio. On the verso of the title page, a new preface by Bade addressed to Louis Pinelle, Bishop of Meaux. The text is printed in Roman and Greek type. The title, in red and black, is adorned with an engraved border and Josse Bade’s printer’s mark. Water stains throughout the volume; title page soiled; corner missing from the last leaf; one headband damaged; title label missing. Renouard, Imprimeurs et libraires parisiens, II, 121.
