PIRON (Alexis). Miscellaneous and Lascivious Poems, or a Collection of Various Pieces by this Author. London, Williams Jacksom, 1784. 8vo, red half-shagreen, red edges (19th-century binding). An extremely rare first edition, unrecorded in bibliographies, of the erotic poems by the Dijon-born ballad writer Alexis Piron (1689–1773). Gay mentions the reprints of 1789 and 1793, both of which he considers ‘very rare’.
Handwritten note in ink on the half-title page: ‘Contrary to public morals, worthy of the fire. ’
