Description
STAËL (Germaine de). Reflections on the Principal Events of the French Revolution. Paris, Delaunay, Bossange and Masson, 1818. 3 volumes in-8, marbled calfskin, gilt roulette, plain decorated spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). First edition. The final manuscript was only three-quarters complete at the time of the author’s death on 14 July 1817. Auguste de Staël and Victor de Broglie, her son and son-in-law respectively, published it with the assistance of Auguste Schlegel. This important work brings together an account of Necker’s public life, Madame de Staël’s memoirs and the history of the French Revolution. It is undoubtedly Madame de Staël’s most comprehensive and successful essay in the field of liberal thought. A very fine copy in attractive and fresh contemporary bindings. Vicaire, VII, 654 – Martin & Walter, 31988 – Tourneux, I, 114 – Longchamp, no. 117-1 – En français dans le texte, no. 222.
