Description
GUYON (Madame). *Les Opuscules spirituels*. New edition, corrected and expanded. Cologne [Amsterdam], Jean de la Pierre, 1720. 2 volumes, small 8vo, stiff vellum, smooth spine, speckled edges (contemporary Dutch binding). A rare, complete edition of the *Treatise on Spiritual Torrents*, Madame Guyon’s principal work, which had circulated in manuscript form before being printed in the first edition of the *Spiritual Opuscule* in 1704. The second volume contains, in particular, the *Treatise on the Purification of the Soul after Death* and the *Short Summary of the Way and the Union of the Soul with God*.
A lovely frontispiece engraved by Willem de Broen adorns the edition.
A very fine copy in contemporary Dutch vellum.
Caillet, no. 4889 (edition not cited).
