[ALCHEMICAL MANUSCRIPT]. The Concordance of the Sages… [and other Hermetic writings]. 18th-century manuscript. Folio, [64] leaves, 28 pp., soft vellum, leather fastenings (contemporary binding). An important manuscript on alchemy and spagyric medicine, comprising four main texts:
1. The Concordance of the Sages, or the Conformity of the Views of the Most Esteemed Philosophers, Concerning the Composition of the Philosophical Mercury..., in which there is discussion of the vessel, the furnace, and the regulation of the fire; of the fermentation of the stone, its multiplication, and the method of projecting it. 29 pp.
Following this first treatise, 17 pp. contain: Some philosophical aphorisms drawn from the writings of the most learned Mr d’Espagnet. – Some passages taken from the book entitled *The Fountain of Chemical Philosophy* by an anonymous author. – Testimony of Artephius, an ancient philosopher. – Testimony of the Abbé Synesius, a Greek philosopher. – Hieroglyphic text by Abraham the Jew, reported by Nicollas Flammel [sic]. – Testimonies of Basile Valentin, etc.
2° A practical guide to the preparation and composition of the Philosophers’ Mercury according to the rules of Philaletha [George Starkey]. 7 pp.
