[MASONIC MANUSCRIPT]. [CHEREAU (Antoine-Guillaume)]. A compilation of two anonymous manuscripts on Chéreau’s *Explanation of the Cubic Stone*. No place, no date [1805]. Set of 2 volumes in-4, burgundy half-basane (Modern binding). ▪ Critical observations on a Masonic engraving signed F∴ Chéreau. Original manuscript of 24 pp. This critique of Chéreau’s engraving is signed at the end with the initials P∴L∴L∴.
▪ Explanation of the new faces of the Cubic Stone, by the author of the Critical Observations on the engraving signed F∴ Chéreau. 10 pp. Original manuscript of 10 pp., by the same author, illustrated with a large and beautiful fold-out plate drawn in pen and inscribed ‘Complete System of the Sublime Art’, which describes the third and fourth faces of the Cubic Stone.
Enclosed with these two manuscripts is a proof of Chéreau’s engraving: The Four Faces of the Cubic Stone of the Scottish Rite of the G∴ Or∴ of France. Drawn and engraved by F∴ Chéreau, 5803 [1803]. This double-page copperplate engraving illustrates the *Explanation of the Cubic Stone* published by Antoine-Guillaume Chéreau in 1806. It is presented on its own, without the text, tab-mounted in a modern half-percale binding; minor repair with no loss affecting the subject and corner restoration.
