Description
NOSTRADAMUS. The True Centuries and Prophecies. Rouen, J.-B. Besongne, 1710. 12mo, fawn calfskin, gilded crowned coat of arms in the centre, decorated spine, red edges (contemporary binding). A Rouen-printed popular edition featuring a frontispiece title page with two subjects (the execution of Charles I of England and the Great Fire of London) and five portraits within the text, including two full-page illustrations (Nostradamus and Henry IV), all wood-engraved. The first part contains the *Vrayes centuries*; the second is entitled *Admirable Predictions for the Current Years of this Century*.
A copy with the coats of arms scraped away, completely on the front cover, partially on the back cover. These are probably the crowned macle and chabot that adorn the books of Louis-Marie-Bretagne de Rohan-Chabot (1710–1791), Duke of Rohan, de Roquelaure and du Lude. Worn caps and corners, scratches on the covers, foxing and wormholes.
Dorbon, no. 3276.
