Description
TRICASSO (Patrizio). *La Chiromance* by Patrice Tricasse des Ceresars, of Mantua. Translated from Italian into French, newly revised and corrected. Paris, Denys Bechet, 1641. In-8, soft vellum (contemporary binding). A very rare edition of this treatise on palmistry, illustrated with 49 wood-engraved figures within the text. The USTC lists only two copies (held in Toulouse and Edinburgh). Patrizio Tricasso’s *Chyromantia* was first published in Italian in 1524, then translated into French as early as 1546. It is a ‘remarkable work for the prominence given to the teachings of tradition’, according to Caillet, who does not cite this 17th-century edition. A fine copy in contemporary vellum. Minor marginal worm damage, slight foxing.
